Silent Sermon
Given that such a large portion of Hungary’s architectural heritage consists of churches, it’s surprising how few films there are presenting sacred spaces. One exception is the Sümeg Bishop’s Parish Church.
This film about the church and its famous baroque fresco cycle, the “silent sermon,” is both an art history study and a religious meditation. The museum visitor might focus on the former, the Christian on the latter, but ideally, both would appreciate each other’s perspective. The film is notable for reconstructing in 3D the space that the contemporary artist created solely through painting on the ceiling fresco.
