From a European perspective, the tarogato is the perfect Hungarian instrument, and on hearing the high-pitched fleeing Kuruc songs, we might be inclined to agree. This is a tarogato story for Hungarians.
The tarogato is an instrument that spread through Central Asia and arrived in Hungary through the Turks, accompanying the last half-millennium of Hungarian history with its sound, and eventually becoming a truly national musical instrument. Our film was made with the support of the Hungarian Hungarikum Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Rákóczi Tarogato Association.
