Laying the Foundation Stone
Silent ancestors are seen in stiff poses in museum images. It’s more interesting when the image speaks. Three short films enable the visitor to listen in on the background conversations during the laying of the foundation stone of the Chain Bridge.
Two famous British civil engineers participated in the construction of the Chain Bridge at the invitation of István Széchenyi. During the ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone, viewers can gain an insight into the background of this grand endeavor through their brief dialogues with each other and the banker Simon Sinas about the problems that arose. All this unfolds in front of the scenery of Miklós Barabás’ painting.
